So, this is going to be a random post until Eme wakes up or John is out of the bathroom so I can finish drying my hair!
I had a chance to go with the mom of one of the other families to the hospital on Tuesday. She is a type 1 diabetic and her insulin pump decided it was WAY confused about being in China and stopped working. She had no long acting insulin....and of course her prescription for it wasn't about to be filled in China. So, off to the hospital we went with our guide. We were lucky enough to catch a taxi for the trip there...it only cost $1 usd...and it was so funny when she went to pay, she pulled out an extra 1 rmb and our guide, Rita, said no tip, and the driver just snatched it up. We all had a good laugh.....of course the lady cab driver wanted a tip!
We went in and Rita filled out a card.....we waited in line where you put cash on a card that they start deducting from for the services you receive. If you don't put enough on it, you have to keep getting back in line to add more $$. Very strange. We waited to see he doctor....there were about 32 rooms going at once...and we were waiting for our number to pop up. When it did, we walked back to the room...and went in while the previous patient was still talking to the doc. Um, there is NOOO HIPAA in China! We waited and waited for the patient in front of us to finish. And then Rita tried to explain what was going on.....the doctor spoke some English and did a great job communicating. There really is a ton of English everywhere in China....our guide in Beijing told us almost all students study English in school.....and it seems evident because we see English everywhere. Back to the hospital......so before we were done...the patient behind us came in....and took Rita's chair that she was standing next to...and then after another few minutes another patient came in! It was getting crowded....and SMOKEY! in there. Yes, there is smoking INSIDE the hospital! I'm thinking the only place I will be able to get away from the smoke is an airplane! :) Rita did an awesome job running around and adding money to the card and making sure my friend was taken care of. The CRAZY thing is...the visit to the doctor cost 4.5 rmb - less than ONE US dollar! But, the medicine (three pens? and needles) was about 500 rmb. I don't know what it would cost in the states...but I was glad my friend got off relatively cheap and should make it through the rest of the trip without any problems.
Okay...so I started this yesterday, lol, and I don't have much time to try to finish now. We are about to head to Guangzhou...we'll be there until Wednesday to get Eme's visa so we can come home!!! We are all homesick, big time. I think I might be getting a bit of a sore throat...yuck. Oh, well other than that John and I have both been feeling very good. I think Eme is feeling good as well...but she can't tell me because she doesn't talk! :)
I had lots of interesting things to write about when I started this post...but they have all escaped me. I will say that Eme is warming up to me a bit. She still prefers John to carry her everywhere, but she is fine with me feeding and playing with her. I think I'll be able to win her over once we get home and she sees how much Jack loves his momma! Oh do I miss my boy! Continued prayers for parents and Jack please. I know he is wearing them ragged....and huge hugs to our wonderful sitter Vicky. She had posted on FB that she was giving him extra loving while we are gone. I just miss him so much! Would give all the $$ in my pocket (and John's too!) for a hug and kiss from him!
Off to the airport we go.....the smoggy, foggy, headache-inducing airport, lol!
