Beijing...

Well, we are here. It is about 5:30am (4:30pm est). The flight was the longest ever - neither of us were able to sleep much, but the time did go by fairly quickly. There were a lot of people on the flight, but we had three seats to ourselves which helped. We arrived around 2:30pm and had to wait in line for a long time to have our passports checked in the "foreigners" line. We spotted our guide right after walking through customs and he took us to the van that would take us to the hotel. The hotel is nice! Great pillows! We walked around the hotel a bit, but decided to skip dinner and just go straight to bed around 5:30pm. We both slept well until about midnight, but then had to make ourselves sleep (isn't that horrible, lol!). I actually went down to run in the fitness center, but the lady in there pointed to the sign saying it didn't open until 6am. I thought I better run today because I might not be up to it again. We are meeting our guide and group in the lobby at 9am to start sight-seeing. We are excited to meet the rest of our group!

Our guide had our China cell phone sent to his place because they wouldn't deliver it to the hotel. We haven't been able to skype with Jack yet, but I'm hoping we can do that later this morning.

Some other thoughts:
Lots of honking and beeping from the cars, not lots of blinker usage.
The city seems so huge...of course I was exhausted and don't remember much of the drive here!
I am so paranoid about accidentally drinking the water, but so far so good.
I'm not sure if it's smog....John thinks it's cigarette smoke, but the air is very different here.
Can't believe we are really here!

Beyond Blessed! ~ Erin
